Using Windows Vista ReadyBoost software to make my computer less slow
Windows ReadyBoost is a way of adding memory to your system without the previously needed and expensive RAM increase. By using a USB flash-drive you can improve performance without having to add RAM. It is available only on Windows Vista Edition and it is a very new concept.
The USB flash acts as a memory cache which means the computer can access it much more quickly than having to search for it on the hard drive. It uses the technology of Windows Superfetch which enables files and programs to load much more quickly than the XP version of Windows. Superfetch monitors the programs you use most often and makes them readily available to you. On the XP version, things like system scans were always at the ready using up power from your computer. Windows SuperFetch, and as a result, ReadyBoost eliminate this problem. Your system is able to run much more quickly with the advanced technology because you are not having to constantly run programs that for the most part sit in the background and take up space and power. Work such as defragmenting are set on low priority so that they are available but not at the expense of getting your other, more immediate tasks and work done.
With the old Windows versions there was no way to store and access the lesser used programs so they just constantly used up power on your computer which often made it run more slowly despite efforts to correct it. With Windows Vista ReadyBoost the programs you need are readily available while those used less often are put on the back burner to use power only when you need and use them. All of this creates more readily available power at any given time which vastly increases your computers performance and speed.
With ReadyBoost you can use part of the availability of the USB or memory card to speed up performance and the other part is used to store files. This is one of the best advancements that Windows Vista had to offer over XP. It is basically a technological breakthrough that allows other resources to add and improve power and memory to your computer thereby speeding up the process of recalling programs you need to use. ReadyBoost does not automatically do this, however. When it detects a USB flash drive or a Secure Memory card it determines if it is fast enough to work with Readyboost. If it is then a screen will appear giving you the option of using the ReadyBoost Technology. This way you are still in complete control of how the resources on your computer are being used.
ReadyBoost takes the load off of the hard drive and makes information and memory more readily available to you without taxing the system or the hard drive. Vista is the only version which offers this amazing new use of USB slots. A computer that runs more efficiently and quickly is on everyone’s wish list and now it comes to us in the form of Windows Vista ReadyBoost.
